The debut release on Intelligence's electro subsidiary Panic Trax is from Phil Klein's Cybernet Systems project, with the title track a collaboration with no less a first-wave electro/bass legend than Dynamix II (previous Klein tracks have appeared on compilations on the latter's Miami-based label). Hardly a memory-lane rehash of "Just Give the DJ a Break," however, "The Borg" is one of the more futuristic articulations of electro-funk in the digital age yet to appear. All time-stretched snares and bouncing, melodic detuned kicks, this four-tracker is top-to-bottom quality.
the borg ep - review by kris needs
Looks like a new intellinet label – dunno but there`s a collaboration with Dynamix in Miami and the rest is the work of one P. Klein who deals in warped, acid tinged electro hacking with plenty of mad samples and even the legendary Evil Bottom. Some devastating drum action on the aptly named Extreme Force

Excellent electro space opera from Phil Klein aka Bass Junkie goes on! Taken from his essential "Robot Movement" CD album, this seventh serial on Battle Trax saga announces one more time dismal future: Earth imminent assault by hostile mechanical beings. In a breaking out of bass and TR808, apocalyptic "Robot Movement" offers a striking industrial electrocore music. Fully equipped with "Instrumental" and "Vocoderpella" versions, this brilliant cut completes "Sound Chemistry C.S.M 808 mix" (a 2002 remix of the original that appeared in 1994 on Dynamix II) and "Give Us The Technology", two awesome tracks of pure electro bass in a retro style. Do not miss it cause you will have regrets!!!!!!

Battle Trax is run by Phil Klein AKA Bass Junkie who has been accountable for some of the toughest Electro Beats to kick out of the UK scene. An apt title for the imprint as it`s been rocking bass bins for the past few months.
This latest is the 7th in a line of EP`s that storm the senses with raw 808`s and analogues, chainsaw synths and industrial bolts, all filtered through a demented computer. The systems are alive! robot movement cd - review by st - sleaze nation
Here comes a very classy, 808-heavy epic joyride through a world where -tek, -tron, -borg and -netik remain resolutely de rigueur suffixes whilst the sleeve's green-on-black 70s DOS Format typeface introduces a veritable plethora of quality hardcore electro.
It's by Bass Junkie, it's a funky borg and we love it! robot movement cd - review by michael harmon
This offering comes to us from occasional Dynamix II collaborator Phil Klein, a.k.a. Bass Junkie, Cybernet systems, Final Dream, industrial Bass Machine (with Scott Weiser of Dynamix II and Jackal N Hyde fame). It falls in line with his other work, right into the Miami Bass category of electro.
In other words, if you expect lots of low bass and vocorded vocals then this CD doesn't disappoint. All the tracks feature lots of the low-end frequencies that make woofers hum and make cops give out noise tickets. A must for any electro fan. Starts off with "Robot Movement", a nice little Kraftwerk-inspired track working the Vocoder for all it's worth. It then flows into "Will I Dream", a piece of dark electro asking a question reminiscent of HAL 9000's questions about dreams. From there the album goes into stories of Robots, technology and the future. All are good, but the true standout on this album is "We Are Borg". This track, which makes use of Dynamix's penchant for sampling vocals from cheesy sci-fi flicks, should make any Star Trek fan happy and just might make Phil a superstar on the Trekkie circuit. All in all, this is an excellent CD from a talented individual that should make any electro-bass fan happy robot movement cd - review by tom magic feet
Cybernet Systems is an alter ego for Phil Klein, a UK-based electrobass producer better known (as much as you can be on the tiny UK electro scene anyway) under his Bass Junkie identity via releases on the DMX Krew's Breakin' label.
'Robot Movement' consists of some previously released Cybernet Systems outings - including the Dynamix II collaboration 'We Are Borg', about the nearest the UK gets to a bona fide modern day electro classic - with a host of new tracks and comes wrapped in a simultaneously futuristic and old school vibe somewhere between Star Trek and Bladerunner. The music is defiantly hardcore, keeping to a classic electro blueprint With hard, fast 808 beats and, of course, lots and and lots of bass. As a result,'Robot Movement' might come as something of a shock to the casual listener who's just picked up the latest Gigolo compilation, but for the committed electro freak or anyone looking for some seriously hardcore electronic beats, it's all systems go! robot movement cd - review by nexus 6 - atome
With an awesome use of bass, sounds and an impressive number of tracks, generosity will be the correct term to describe one of the main and essential electro releases of the year 2002. Author of four albums on Breakin', Audio Illusion and Joey Boy records, Phil Klein compiles today his early musical works under his underground Cybernet Systems pseudo. No doubt novices and fans of the first light will be fully satisfied to (re)discover some classical and out of print tunes like astounding "We are Borg" or renowned "Sound Chemistry". Taken from past Battle Trax 02 & 05, Panic Trax 01 "The Dynamix II Electro Bass Compilation" releases, nine old school masterpieces, written from 1995 to 1998, have been completed with more recent productions as wonderful "Robot Movement" & "Circuitry" songs to be released in vinyl later on. In a perfect consistency, fifteen tracks in total easily demonstrate talent of the UK electro movement spearhead. From "Will I Dream?" to "First Contact", "Planet Electro" or "Extreme Force", Battle Trax mastermind declines, in a continuous bass breaking, a music alternatively futuristic, full of scary samples, vocoderised and even acid. Pioneer of the Miami Sound (let's read our interview in the news pages) along side with Scott Weiser (half of Jackal & Hyde / Dynamix II) in the 90's, Bass Junkie is expected to play at the Batofar in Paris, on March the 30th. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear in preview this vital opus. Five copies of the new CD are to be won at Groovetech.com. But are you really ready for bass?

Also known as Bass Junkie, Phil Klein has dropped electro on numerous labels : Dynamix II, Breakin' Records and Battle Trax. 6 cuts are exclusive to the CD, the rest are taken from various Battle Trax and Dynamix II releases. This is a journey through the world of 808 madness, classic sounding drums, noises et al, crossing between Drexciyan sounds and early electro beats. If you enjoy a good romp through classic sounding tracks and 808 madness, check this and wig out.

Hard to equal quality of Battle Trax 03 produced by Industrial Bass Machine (aka Bass Junkie and Scott Weiser from Jackal and Hyde) in 1997. Yet, this new release from Cybernet Systems manages to do it easily. On info side, Dexorcist opens fire with its "Armageddon Bass Mix" version of Robot Movement. Evil drums and apocalyptic strings, no need to say this furious track will show you doors of Hell! Bass Junkie keeps on the pressure with "Planet Electro", a mega floor burner made of deadly bass line and funky elements. On logo side, DMX Krew comes on point with an impressive adaptation of classic 1995 "We Are Borg" tune (Scott Weiser & Bass Junkie again on legendary Panic Trax label) in a raw and overstatement cuts edit. Hunters of rare and deleted releases will enjoy. At last, to punctuate this awesome slab with skill, M(aste)r Klein delivers perfect "Circuitry" cut. Harmonious melody, dark synthesizers, executed with spirit lyrics and a unique way to use 808, no doubt this is the best and most beautiful tune Battle Trax owner has never done in his long and brilliant career. VITAL! |
