A mini event in electro microcosm! Mythical Battle Trax records, hosted by Bass Junkie, takes up again with vinyl releases after years of silence! After two legendary albums produced in 1995 by "Industrial Bass Machine" (formed by label mastermind and Scott Weiser from Dynamix II), the underground structure sees today the coming of English The Dexorcist. Association with Bass Junkie works perfectly. Under Kronos Device name, both artists have great time with a four darkcore, industrial and vocoderised electro cuts ("Core Breach" et "The Engine" to name a few). An awesome EP, full of energy. No doubt, after august the 27th (official release date), there will be no survivor.
ravager of planets ep - review by matt chester - the11thhour.com
This is the first collaboration between Bass Junkie and Simon Brown (Dexorcist) on Bass Junkie's freshly resurrected label, Battle Trax - and as you might expect, it's quite a hard bastard. Tough, driving rhythms, dark and warped synth hits, analogue squeals and low vocoding characterise this EP, making for four high yield dancefloor missiles. Though all pretty much in the same vein, the outstanding cut here is 'Concious Robot', laying down a harsh synth bassline, with cutoff filter sweeps fucking up the rhythm, tight percussion pushing the whole thing along, and bizarre narration continuing throughout. Not a bad debut for Kronos Device, and the welcome return of a classic label.
damage control ep - review by nexus 6 - atome
One year after sound cataclysm caused by the release of classic "Ravagers Of Planet EP", Kronos Device threats to invade shortly the electro galaxy. Promising an album called "Qube" to be release in spring 2003, UK duo formed by Bass Junkie (Battle Trax, Breakin, Audio Illusion) and Dexorcist (Control Tower, SMB, Fuel) reinvests sound systems today with "Damage Control" a fearsome three tracks EP which augurs dark future. On A side, industrial "Distress Signal", fully equipped in two versions ("Vocopella" & "Instrumental") gives audience devastating first assault. On the reverse, darkcore "Obey & Survive" goes on with engagement thanks to an incredible vocoder (the same used by Industrial Bass Machine on "The Voice Of World Control" tune in 1998). At last, atmospheric "Ravagers Of Planet" concludes this must have 12'' with a quiet musical note. Brilliant!

Bass Junkie & The Dexorcist come together for the second time with another 4 slabs of hardcore electro. Distress Signal has the required robot vocal, acid squelches and huge bass sweeps and comes in both vocal and instrumental. Obey & Survive and Ravager Of Planets are equally rough, not to mention strong.
Make it so! damage control ep - review by boomkat
Coming from 2 of UK electro's most accomplished electro cadets, Bass Junkie and Dexorcist combine talents to drop a 4 track bomb of mashed up electro. The tracks are all analogue monsters with frantic beats and messy synths creating havoc with your head, try 'Obey and Survive' for string laden acidic madness, or the vocal of 'Distress signal' which will cause distress on the dancefloor with its dark and heavy vocal, guaranteed scare the faint hearted. As an added bonus there is also some nice graffiti on the label... Check.
qube cd - review by boomkat
...aka the battle hard team of The Dexorcist and the Bass Junkie - Control Tower vs Breakin' - you know the steez. Thirteen brutal electro bass bombs to soundtrack a proper epic Roland Emmerich movie with giant robots creating havoc on planet earth. Ugly graphics hide a devastating blast of the hard stuff, dirty, squelchy, synth rocking madness with a retro mid eighties electro feel with sneaky samples included, 'Rogue Program' is the tip - just like you like it.

"Your planet is defenceless, you have no time to react, as we lay waste to your cities, with our sonorous attack". This is how the first Kronos Device album starts. With a threatening introduction. Taking back with the cuts already released on "Ravager Of Planets" and "Damage Control" Ep's (cf. our previous reviews), this second CD opus published on Battle Trax camp after the Cybernet Systems one delivers seven additional pieces in a robotic, industrial and futuristic vein. Besides "Qube", "The Structure", "Rogue Program", "Below The Surface", "Terminate The Bass", "Sinister Synthesis" and "Dead Of Night", alternating offensive and downtempo experiments, institute a chaotic, anguishing and striking atmosphere. Like if you were witnessing the apocalyptic assault of Earth by an extraterrestrial entity. Surging of bass, vocoder and distorted lyrics, ultra dark strings and Sci-Fi influences give to this new electrocore musical concept a complete homogeneity. Bass Junkie (Breakin', Electrix) and The Dexorcist (Control Tower, SMB) association works full team and perfectly. For connoisseurs, "Qube" will remind you of "A Taste Of Armageddon" CD by I.B.M project, produced in 1998 on Joey Boy label. The electro album of the year? More than probable.
qube ep1 - review by nexus 6 - electro allaince
No doubt one of the current best electrocore bands, Kronos Device (Bass Junkie & The Dexorcist) joins up again with its third vinyl output! Taken from the eponymous CD album released early this year on Battle Trax (let’s read also the review in our pages), “Qube EP” serves on A side long awaited “Terminate The Bass” in its instrumental and vocal versions. Irresistible floor burner, this devastator tune combines in an apocalyptic atmosphere robotic bass line, vicious filtered lyrics, Sci-Fi sounds, ultra efficient 808 and gloomy strings. All those components are heavily used on B side unreleased cut “Machine Breed”, a feverish and futuristic syncopated tune with fast cadence to be compared with Kronos Device first tracks on BT006. At last, to complete this must have 12’’, “The Structure” comes to blow innovative industrial panic wind thanks to its low rhythm (100 bpm) full of old school hip hop nostalgia. An incredible production!!
qube ep2 - review by nexus 6 - electro alliance
Fourth vinyl release signed by UK Bass Junkie (Breakin`/Battle Trax) and The Dexorcist (Tower Control/SMB) under their anticipating electrocore pseudo. Still taken from the eponymous CD album published at the beginning of 2004 (see previous reviews), monstrous "Qube" appears on A side in both instrumental and vocal version. Combining Sci-Fi sonorities, dark arpeggios and underground rhythm, this offensive piece of anthology will found a terribly threatening climate in each one of your sets. However, as superb as can sound "Qube", what to say about unreleased "Hostile Lifeform" on the flip? True revelation and absolute climax of the 12", this enormous piece should wake up in you an irresistible wish to mix, judge rather: As an overture, an amusing sample undoubtedly drawn in one of these futuristic films of the Sixties, followed by a stunning bass line, some old school EFX, one seizing 808 allied with devastating synthesizer strings, an industrial siren at the end of the course, no doubt, the fusion of styles between Phil klein and Simon Brown functions with full mode on what will remain like one their best pieces. To close, long awaited "Rogue Program" comes to insufflate a deep wind thanks to the use of a shifted vocoder and some beautiful minimal tonalities. A hallucinating and essential production!
dynamik devices ep - review by nexus 6 - electro alliance
When Borgs make love with an 808! Following their debut 12’’ as Gods Of Technology at the beginning of the year, “Dynamik Devices EP” sees Bass Junkie (Battle Trax, Breakin’, Street Sounds) & The Dexorcist’s (Control Tower, SMB, Bass Gun) great return as Kronos Device. Having teamed up once again under their most feared and anticipated moniker to deliver their fifth EP to date on Battle Trax, unleash the Bass and together rule the galaxy as father and son (although there’s no relationship between both artists and no old difference eh eh), the UK renegades demonstrate how easy they can jump like sliders from one musical project to another, encompassing a vast range of styles from early Detroit reminiscences, to more hardcore sounds passing through Electro Bass. Fusing serious subsonic vibrations and harsh melodies to a solid electro bassline, long awaited “Atom Smasher”, in overture of the A side, will remain as one of the best Kronos Device cuts ever for many reasons. Introducing nasty synth lines over industrial touches, this instrumental onslaught injects the exact amount of sub woofers you’d expect from the versatile London artists, turning the track into an unstoppable floor burner, dirty, evil, full of killout trancey arpeggios, insane waves oscillations and horror modulations! The Bass reinvests sound systems as brainwasher “Atom Smasher” shuffles its terrifying atmosphere and is not ready to leave the whole side of the 12’’ as DBS (Dominance Electricity, Monotone USA, Back II Boom) takes control of the second track. Author of a stunning “On A Rainy Evening” song on Crobot Muzik’s brand new compilation “Dalekovod V3”, the German crew offers a memorable rework of “Below The Surface”. Adding more drama to the original, a Kronos Device cut taken from the Qube CD album released in 2004, thanks to a plethora of scary movie lyrics, Dynamik Bass System sublimates the rhythm with incredible 808 programming and signs an amazing rampage of untouchable synth layers melting with pounding beats. The tempo goes faster, enhanced with new samples like “See It, Hear It, Feel It, Inside” transmitting on all frequencies some bad ass to create a living beast ready to escape from its creators. Top notch! On the flipside, Kronos Device returns with an infectious rebuilt version of DBS’s “Robotmachine”.. Taken from the eponymous EP released on Exzakt’s own Monotone USA label in 2006, the remix serves up another dancefloor cyb-orgy based upon uncompromising razor sharp beats, old school EFX and a fat woofin’ bassline. Fully completed with rich pads sequences, gloomy lyrics and droid bleeps, this sounds like a real slammin’ slice of mecha! If you survive this Bass assault, which I seriously doubt, finally, unreleased Kronos Device song should terminate you. Ending the 12’’ on a groovy note, “Us & Them” delivers a slowed down odyssey through darkness, combining serious analogical strings to much anticipating voices and Middle East influences. Wicked! Let’s figure out a 12’’ with at least three instant classics sure to cross the next twenty years. Must have!

Purest 808 electro abuse from Kronos Device. No surprises here, three tracks of straight-up epic electro, between the dystopian rave of 'Atom Smasher!', the quickfire Miami beats 'Below The Surface' and the slowfast HipHop of 'Us & Them'. One for the old nu-skool rockers and fans of DMX Krew. |
