DESTROY HIM MY ROBOTS

Who the hell..?

Phil Klein, aka Bass Junkie and Cybernet Systems, is one of the UKs best
electro bass producers. Although there aren't that many of them around, it
has to be said. As well as running his own intermittent Battle Trax label,
he's released two LPs under the Bass junkie name for Ed DMX's Breakin'
Records, remixed Radioactive Man and Man Parrish, and collaborated with
Miami's electro bass legends Dynamix II, most notably on 'We Are Borg'. You
can guess how the lyrics go on that one.

Ah, electro. It's cool again, right?

Phil's a little unsure about that, actually, but does say that he's am glad
that more people are taking an interest in it. As to the music's enduring
appeal, he says simply that "there's no other style of music that can make
the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end like a decent electro track
can."

All poised to ride the electropop wave to stardom then?

Unlikely. This isn't about endless variations on the 'I Feel Love'
bassline, you know. Phil specialises in the kind of purist, hardcore electro bass
that Radio 1 wouldn't touch with a bargepole, largely because it might blow too
many of their speakers. He's collected the best of his tougher material
together on his new CD, 'Robot Movement' and believe us, it's pretty rough
stuff, with enough bass to floor an elephant. Makes those drum'n'bass boys
look like pussies, frankly.

So what is it about bass with him?

"Without bass, what is dance music? It's the only frequency you can feel."
Hmmm. Good point, Phil.

Future plans?

"Soon I will create a machine of immense power that will harness enough
bass to destroy the planet," Phil cackles. "Then I will rule the world! Maybe."
